Kenya Carving

Kenya Carving // Lamu Island, Kenya. 2010

Among my inspirational journeys, Lamu remains one of the most influential ones. The wood craft developed by these artisans is an example of skills and rooted traditions. Wood carving in particular is rich in details, intricate patterns decorate every door and hallway, reflecting the cultural richness, more than a dozen different tribes and two of the major religions, coexist in this island. The artisan comes from generations after generations of long learning, each of them adding their own style. A journey to the island is a journey to past, where Muslims and Christians have lived in harmony for centuries and centuries to come.

I want to know more about it
